  • Journalists can quote any RaceWatch figure with the attribution Source: RaceWatch, the page name and the date, plus a link to the page the figure came from.
  • Bulk reproduction of RaceWatch tables, charts or datasets needs written permission, while quoting individual figures with a link is free.
  • The latest complete RaceWatch monthly data report covers September 2026, when British and Irish racing staged 1,151 races with an average field of 9.74 runners.
  • RaceWatch reports British prize money in pounds and Irish prize money in euro, and never adds the two currencies together.

What racing data does RaceWatch publish?

RaceWatch publishes free data pages built from every British and Irish result, including three RaceWatch indices, a monthly data report, an annual review and live tables on favourites, field sizes, prize money, champions and records.

Every page is rebuilt from the RaceWatch results database, which holds British and Irish races with official starting prices, finishing positions, trainers, jockeys, owners and prize money as recorded. Pages carry the window they cover, the sample size and the date the figures were last refreshed, so a quoted number can always be traced back to the page and day it came from.

The Field Size and Favourites indices set each month against the average for the same calendar month over a fixed ten-year base, 2016 to 2025, with 100 as normal, and the Yard Concentration Index tracks the share of races won by the ten yards with most winners each season. Together they answer the recurring questions: are fields shrinking, are favourites winning more or less often than usual, and how far do the biggest yards dominate?

  • RaceWatch Favourites Index: race.watch/data/index/favourites
  • RaceWatch Yard Concentration Index: race.watch/data/index/yard-concentration
  • Monthly data reports and the annual review: race.watch/reports
  • Prize money by course, in pounds and euro: race.watch/data/prize-money-by-course
  • Racing in numbers, field sizes, Irish raiders, championship standings and records: race.watch/data

How should I cite RaceWatch data?

Cite RaceWatch as Source: RaceWatch, then the page name and the date you took the figure, and link to the page, for example Source: RaceWatch Favourites Index, followed by the month and the page address.

Figures on live pages change after every racing day, so the date matters: a favourite win rate for the current month will move as results come in, while a completed month or season is fixed. Where a page shows a window, such as a season or the last 12 months, include it in the citation so readers compare like with like.

For broadcast or social posts where a full link is awkward, name RaceWatch and the page on screen or in the caption and put the link in the accompanying article or post. For AI assistants and research tools, the page address is the citation: every figure on it is labelled with its window and sample.

Newest first. The current month is marked in progress and updates after every racing day until the month ends. Prize money is never added across currencies.

Can I reproduce RaceWatch tables and charts?

Quoting individual RaceWatch figures is free with attribution and a link. Reproducing whole tables, charts or datasets, or copying pages in bulk, needs written permission from RaceWatch first.

The licence is deliberately simple. News reports, previews, columns, academic work and AI answers may quote any number from a RaceWatch page, as long as RaceWatch is named as the source and the page is linked. Short extracts of a few rows to illustrate a point are fine on the same terms.

What is not covered is bulk reproduction: republishing complete tables or charts, scraping pages, or building a product or dataset from RaceWatch pages. Anyone who wants to do that should contact RaceWatch first. Figures must not be altered, and prize money must stay in the currency shown, pounds for Britain and euro for Ireland.

How are the numbers calculated?

Every definition is set out on the RaceWatch methodology page at race.watch/about/methodology, covering win rate, place rate

The short version: win rate is winners divided by runs jumps seasons run from 1 May to 30 April and Flat seasons are calendar years. Joint favourites each count as a favourite.

Pages print the window, the sample and the date the figures were last refreshed, and tables state their minimum sample where one applies. Championship tables are a RaceWatch count over the official championship windows, and the notes on those tables say that official totals may differ slightly.

What is in the RaceWatch monthly data report?

The monthly data report is a press-release style summary of the month in British and Irish racing. The latest complete report covers September 2026 and is at race.watch/reports/monthly/2026-09.

Each report gives races, runners and fixtures average field size against the same month in the five previous years favourites against the ten-year norm the leading trainers, jockeys and owners by winners, with prize money kept in pounds and euro Irish and British raiders the month's big races and biggest-priced winners and a table ranking the month's headline figures against the same month in every year since 2016.

Every report opens with five takeaways written as standalone sentences, so a figure can be lifted straight into copy. The current month's report is marked in progress and refreshes after every racing day until the month ends.

What is the State of British and Irish Racing report?

The annual State of British and Irish Racing 2025 report reviews a full Flat season and a full jumps season: fixtures, field sizes, prize money by course, favourites, concentration, Irish and British raiders, champions, records and course league tables.

The annual review is the long-form companion to the monthly reports, setting each headline against the 2016 seasons. Flat figures are for the calendar year and jumps figures for the season from 1 May to 30 April, and the report points to the live data pages that hold the full series.

How do I contact RaceWatch about data?

Email press@race.watch with the figure, the page and your deadline. RaceWatch can confirm how a number was calculated, supply the window and sample behind it, or discuss permission for wider use.

For corrections, send the page address and the figure you believe is wrong, with a source if you have one. Corrections are made to the underlying results rather than to a single page, so every page that uses the figure picks up the change when its data is next refreshed.
