Key takeaways

  • Good free horse racing form in the UK comes from the free racecards on the big racing sites and from RaceWatch's free data pages.
  • RaceWatch publishes 684 free data pages on draw, favourites, trainers, jockeys and returners, built from results since 1990 and open without a membership.
  • Sporting Life, At The Races and the Racing Post all offer free apps with racecards and results for British and Irish racing, as checked in September 2026.
  • A free tipping site offers opinions on who will win, while free form gives the evidence, and the two are not the same thing.

What do the free racecards give you?

Free racecards give runners, riders, weights, form figures and results, which covers the basics of every British and Irish race.

Sporting Life's racecards and app are free, with fast results, news, a My Stable tracker and Racecards Plus carrying comments from Timeform. At The Races is free, with cards up to five days ahead, over 30,000 race clips, live streams from 25 UK courses in its app, Smart Stats and Market Movers. The free Racing Post app lists racecards for every race in Britain and Ireland, with deeper content behind its paid tiers.

Those cards answer who is running, who rides, what they carry and how they have finished recently. For many racegoers that is enough, especially for a day at the races or a quick look at a big handicap on a Saturday afternoon.

What do RaceWatch's free data pages show?

RaceWatch's free data pages publish draw bias by course, favourite records, trainer and jockey form, returners and leaderboards, each with its sample size.

The pages are built from results since 1990 and refresh through each racing day, so today's 40 races and 97 returners appear alongside long-run records. Draw pages show win rates by stall third at each course and distance. Trainer pages show who is in form and who tends to need a run. No membership or email address is needed to read any of them.

  • Favourite records by going, month and field size

What does free form leave out?

Public racing records and results from Britain and Ireland.

A form figure of 2 says a horse finished second, not whether the race was strong. A trainer's strike rate says how often the yard wins, not whether it wins more than the market expects. Those gaps are where paid form earns its money: the same question asked of every runner in every race, with the sample behind the answer shown. Free cards also say little about the market beyond a price, such as which bookmakers are cutting a horse and how early.

What does paid racing form add?

Paid form applies the numbers to every runner in today's races, instead of leaving you to look them up page by page.

Tracker+ sends a notification when a followed horse is declared, and Telegram alert channels cover form, market and going. Other paid services take different routes: Timeform sells ratings and race reports from £1.50 a race, and Geegeez Gold offers data racecards after a £1 first month.

Is a free tipping site the same as free form?

No: a tipping site gives opinions on who will win, while form is the record of what horses have done and the evidence behind any view.

Tipsters can be informative, and the big free sites carry named tipster columns. The difference is that a tip hands over a conclusion, while form lets you check the reasoning yourself: the draw, the going, the trainer's record with horses returning from a break. RaceWatch publishes data rather than tips, and every free page shows its sample size so a figure can be judged on how much evidence sits behind it.

When is it worth paying for racing form?

Paying makes sense once you study races regularly and the extra data changes how you read them, and a free trial is the fair test.

A useful rule: if you find yourself opening three or four free pages to answer one question about a runner, a paid card that answers it in one place saves time. If you study one or two big races a week, the free cards and data pages may be all you need. RaceWatch's 30-day trial costs £0 on the day, with £24.99 a month from day 31 unless cancelled.
