Key takeaways

  • Betfair runs a betting exchange and a sportsbook, with a racing hub of racecards, results, market movers, tips and columnists when checked on 23 September 2026.
  • Betfair publishes Betfair Starting Price files by country as CSV downloads and sells time-stamped exchange data through its Historical Data service.
  • RaceWatch is not a betting site and takes no bets, and is a form data membership at £24.99 a month after a 30-day free trial.
  • The RaceWatch free win rate by odds page sets win rate against implied chance by Betfair SP band, alongside a ten-season Industry SP study of 1,201,143 runs.

Is Betfair an exchange and RaceWatch a form platform?

Yes. Betfair is where bets are placed, on its exchange or sportsbook, while RaceWatch is a form data membership that takes no bets.

Betfair runs a betting exchange, where customers back and lay against each other rather than against a bookmaker, and it also runs a fixed odds sportsbook. Its racing hub adds racecards with form, tips, statistics and Sportsbook and Exchange odds, plus columnists and a racing podcast. RaceWatch sits before any bet: it is a set of racecards, profiles and data tools for studying races, with free data pages open to everyone.

Betfair details below come from its racing hub, its BSP price file directory and its developer pages, checked on 23 September 2026. RaceWatch details come from the member app and the free data pages. Where a feature was not found on Betfair's own pages, the table says not listed rather than no.

What racing content and data tools does Betfair provide?

Betfair provides a racing hub with racecards, results, market movers, tips and columnists, BSP price files, and a paid Historical Data service for time-stamped exchange data.

The racing hub carries daily tips from named tipsters and Timeform, columns from figures such as Paul Nicholls, ante-post and festival tips, and the Racing Only Bettor podcast. For data users, Betfair publishes starting price files for British, Irish and other racing as CSV downloads, and its Historical Data service offers time-stamped exchange price and market data for purchase and download. Those files suit people who build their own models and are comfortable working with raw data.

How does RaceWatch use Betfair SP?

Public racing records and results from Britain and Ireland.

The BSP table below comes from the RaceWatch free data page and refreshes after each racing day. RaceWatch Betfair SP data runs from March 2024, so the table covers that period only, while the Industry SP study covers ten seasons. Reading win rate against implied chance by band shows whether runners in each price range have won more or less often than their price suggested.

Members see prices on the Odds tab for every runner, with exchange prices shown separately from the 20+ bookmakers. The same card carries the runner's form, draw, connections and FormLines+, so a price can be judged against the reasons behind it rather than read on its own.

How does BSP compare with SP for the same runners?

Industry SP is a bookmaker price built with margin, while BSP is an exchange price set at the off by matching backers and layers, so the two often differ, especially on longer-priced runners.

Industry SP reflects the prices bookmakers offer at the off, and a bookmaker book adds up to more than 100 per cent of implied chance. The Betfair SP is calculated when the market is suspended, by balancing SP backers and layers against each other and against unmatched exchange bets. Commission is charged on exchange winnings, so a like for like comparison should account for it.

The RaceWatch free pages let both be read on the same runners: the Industry SP tables cover ten seasons and the BSP table covers runs since March 2024. Comparing the win rate in a BSP band with the win rate at the matching Industry SP shows how the two prices line up in practice.

Does RaceWatch show live exchange prices?

The RaceWatch member Odds tab shows exchange prices separately from bookmaker prices, alongside 20+ bookmakers, opening against current prices and the best price highlighted.

RaceWatch does not offer an exchange, so there is no ladder, no matching and no bet placement. Its price data is there to be read beside form: a runner's odds sit on the same card as its draw, connections and FormLines+, and the GQS market score flags when several bookmakers cut a runner close to the off.

For anyone who uses the exchange, the practical gain is context.

Is RaceWatch a replacement for Betfair or a companion to it?

A companion. RaceWatch is for studying races and Betfair is for placing bets, so RaceWatch sits beside an exchange or bookmaker account rather than replacing one.

The RaceWatch free win rate by odds page updates after every racing day, and the 30-day free trial adds the member racecards at no charge until day 31.
